June 25 at the Rosedale Parkette Grand Opening event with the TSACBA was a great sunny day with light winds to have the antique and classic boats add to the fun.
The event in general was a great time with approximately 300 or more people attending through out the day. There was live music performed, a silent auction of locally donated goods, displays of conservation information and local historic pictures, donated beverages/snacks, and everyone received a piece of cake decorated like the parkette.
In total nine club boats made it to the event and there was plenty of room for more at the government dock. All went well for launching and docking and the dock became busy with the visitors to the event admiring the great boats.
Just before noon some guest speakers spoke about this type of habitat conservation and the efforts made by the Residents of Rosedale in transforming the park into a now great place to visit. I also thanked the club members that did make it that day for helping to enhance the day, and this became evident as the day progressed with the number of people on the dock asking questions about the boats.
As planned a lunch was provided to the boat owners and crew and eventually we made it out on the water for a quick parade in the river in front of the government dock, due to a few local members bringing more than one boat along with the static display boats, the parade was small but still several people admired and waved to the boaters as we went by.
Because there was such a good response to this event there is a possibility that an annual event similar may be held. I will keep TSACBA informed as it would be nice to see more boats turn out and I am sure members would like a reason to get out on Balsam lake.
